UFC Belgrade Broke Two All-Time Records

The UFC's first ever event in Serbia was never going to be quiet, but nobody predicted this. UFC Fight Night: Medic vs. Rodriguez on August 1 at Belgrade Arena produced 12 finishes on a single card, 10 of them in the opening round. Both are all-time UFC records. The co-main was the clearest changing of the guard on the card. Navajo Stirling ate a stiff jab that put him on a knee early, steadied himself, then dropped former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz with a clean right hand and finished him with ground-and-pound at 2:56 of round one.

The 28-year-old City Kickboxing product is now 11-0 as a pro with six straight UFC wins and three stoppages this year alone. A top-10 ranking is a formality. UFC flyweight Allan Nascimento died on Monday, August 3, after an apparent heart attack in his sleep. He was 34. The Sao Paulo native was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

Nascimento signed with the UFC in 2021 and went 4-2 across six Octagon appearances, finishing his career at 22-7. His last outing was a decision loss in June. Makhachev Tells Michael Morales to Get Back to Work

Islam Makhachev defends the welterweight title against Ian Machado Garry in the UFC 330 main event on August 15 in Philadelphia, with Michael Morales installed as the backup fighter. Morales has been angling for the next shot. Makhachev is not interested.

The champion said Morales has to fight again first and floated Carlos Prates or Shavkat Rakhmonov as the appropriate next step, arguing there are simply too many live contenders at 170 to hand out a title fight on hype.
