The Build-Up
Chuck Liddell had lost four of his last five fights, but remained one of the UFC’s most beloved figures. He was the fighter who had made the LHW division must-see television.
The original main event was set to be Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz 3. Tito Ortiz was fired from TUF coaching duties and had neck surgery, making him unavailable. Franklin was confirmed as the replacement.
Main Event
Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin — Light Heavyweight
Chuck Liddell landed a right hand early that staggered Franklin. Franklin absorbed it, counter-landed a right hand that dropped Liddell, and followed with ground and pound until referee Herb Dean stopped the fight at 4:55 of round one. It emerged in the post-fight press conference that Franklin had broken his arm during the bout.
Chuck Liddell announced his retirement on December 29, 2010, at age 41. The TKO loss to Franklin at UFC 115 was the final fight of his career.
Co-Main Event
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Pat Barry — Heavyweight
Barry landed two leg kicks that dropped Cro Cop in rounds one and two — each time, the crowd expected the finish, and each time Cro Cop survived. In round three, Cro Cop secured a takedown and locked in a rear-naked choke at 4:30. One of the most unlikely submission finishes in Cro Cop’s career, and one of the more dramatic heavyweight comeback stories of the year.

Legacy & Impact
Chuck Liddell’s career had defined the UFC’s first mainstream era. His fights with Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture, and Quinton Jackson had been among the promotion’s most-watched events of the 2000s. His loss to Franklin was not dramatic by his own standards — a right hand, a fall, a stoppage — but the post-fight retirement announcement nearly 18 months later confirmed it as the final chapter.
Mirko Cro Cop’s submission of Pat Barry was the most unlikely moment of UFC 115. Cro Cop was a career striker; Barry’s kicks had hurt him badly. The rear-naked choke comeback became a clip that defined both men’s 2010 narratives.
