The Build-Up
Georges St-Pierre and Josh Koscheck had originally fought at UFC 74 in August 2007, where GSP had won by unanimous decision. The rematch arrived three years later after Koscheck had emerged from coaching TUF 12 against GSP as the most hated man in Montreal.
Koscheck had spent his TUF 12 coaching role baiting, mocking, and trash-talking Georges St-Pierre at every opportunity. The Montreal crowd had become deeply hostile toward him. The build-up was personal and the Bell Centre was sold out before the full card was even announced. 23,152 tickets sold.
Main Event
Georges St-Pierre (c) vs. Josh Koscheck — UFC WW Championship
Georges St-Pierre chose to strike with Koscheck — deliberately abandoning the wrestling-first approach that had defined his previous title defences. GSP’s jab was the instrument. In round one, he broke Koscheck’s right orbital bone. Koscheck’s eye swelled shut within minutes. For rounds two through five, Koscheck could barely see on his right side. GSP continued landing the jab anyway.
Georges St-Pierre landed 110 significant strikes to Koscheck’s 16. The scorecards read 50-45, 50-45, 50-45. GSP confirmed his plan post-fight: he had wanted to test his boxing against Koscheck’s wrestling, knowing Koscheck would expect a grappling game.
Co-Main Event
Stefan Struve vs. Sean McCorkle — Heavyweight
Struve used his reach advantage effectively and stopped McCorkle in round one with punches at 3:55, earning a KO Night bonus. McCorkle had made his name with the submission of Mark Hunt at UFC 119; Struve’s win put that result in context.

Legacy & Impact
Georges St-Pierre's performance at UFC 124 is one of his finest. The deliberate choice to out-strike a wrestler — using a jab that broke orbital bone within the first five minutes — while maintaining decision-control across five rounds without a finish, was the fullest expression of GSP’s capacity to adapt. He had never been this sharp with his hands in an MMA fight. Koscheck was left fighting with one eye and could not change the outcome.
The 23,152 attendance confirmed the Bell Centre as the UFC’s most valuable international venue outside of the USA. GSP’s cultural significance in Montreal — described post-fight by Bleacher Report as something only those born under the Maple Leaf could fully appreciate — produced an atmosphere that television transmitted adequately but could not replicate.
