The Build-Up

The Weidman-Machida bout was originally the planned main event of UFC 173. Weidman’s knee injury delayed it to UFC 175. Machida had been calling for a title shot after his controversial decision loss to Phil Davis at UFC 163 and a win over Dan Henderson. Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen were set to fight on the same card as TUF Brazil 3 coaches; Silva refused a NSAC random drug test and did not submit a Nevada licence application and was pulled from the card.'),

Main Event

Chris Weidman (c) vs. Lyoto Machida — UFC MW Championship

Machida’s karate footwork made the early rounds competitive. He landed clean shots and attempted to maintain distance. Weidman used takedowns and ground control throughout the fight, neutralising Machida’s most dangerous moments. In round three, Weidman landed effective elbows from the clinch. Machida’s output slowed in rounds four and five. All three judges scored three or more rounds for Weidman. The unanimous decision was Weidman’s second successful MW title defence.'),

Co-Main Event

Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Alexis Davis — UFC Women’s BW Championship

Rousey and Davis exchanged punches from the bell. Rousey landed a right hand, moved to a judo throw, and slammed Davis to the canvas. She mounted immediately and unleashed ground-and-pound strikes. Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight at 0:16 of round one. It was the fastest finish in a UFC title fight in promotion history at the time of the event.'),

Legacy & Impact

UFC 175’s main event confirmed Weidman’s MW championship as more than the beneficiary of Anderson Silva’s showboating. Against Machida — a former LHW champion with an unorthodox style and fast hands — Weidman used wrestling and physical pressure to control five rounds decisively. The 49-45 scorecards reflected consistent dominance.'),

Rousey’s 16-second finish gave the women’s division its most efficient title fight record. The judo throw and immediate ground-and-pound sequence took less than the time between the opening bell and the first commercial break. The record was eventually broken.'),
