Liddell vs. Horn: First Defence
Jeremy Horn was a veteran submission specialist with over 80 professional fights. Against Liddell he was unable to establish the grappling control that defined his career. Liddell’s striking kept the fight standing and he controlled all four rounds before the TKO stoppage at 2:46 of round four. It was Liddell’s first defence of the LHW belt he had won one event earlier.
Randy Couture’s LHW Debut
Couture had been a two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion and had also held the LHW title twice previously. His return as a light heavyweight at UFC 54 was positioned as the beginning of another run. He submitted Van Arsdale with an anaconda choke — a relatively rare finish at the time — at 0:52 of round three. It was a statement performance that built toward his eventual third LHW championship run.

GSP’s continued winning run against Trigg positioned him as the welterweight contender who would eventually reclaim the title he had lost to Hughes at UFC 50.
