Introduction
UFC Fight Night 50: Jacaré vs. Mousasi 2 took place on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket (Ledyard), Connecticut — broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 to 911,000 average viewers (1.068M peak), one of the highest-rated Fight Night audiences of 2014. The main event was a five-round middleweight rematch between Ronaldo 'Jacaré' Souza and Gegard Mousasi — their first meeting in December 2012 had ended controversially when a ringside physician stopped the fight due to an eye injury Mousasi suffered from an illegal knee.
Jacaré submitted Mousasi by guillotine choke in the first round, providing a definitive answer. Ben Rothwell's first-round KO of Alistair Overeem in the co-main was one of the most shocking heavyweight upsets of the year. Matt Mitrione stopped Derrick Lewis in 41 seconds — an early data point in what would become Lewis's long career. Joe Lauzon and Michael Chiesa produced the Fight of the Night.

✅ Result: Jacaré def. Mousasi via Submission (guillotine choke) — R1 (PoN $50k; dominant rematch win)
Co-Main: Rothwell Upsets Overeem
Alistair Overeem entered as a heavy favourite — he was a former K-1 World Grand Prix champion, Strikeforce heavyweight champion, and had challenged Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 141. Ben Rothwell was a solid but unspectacular heavyweight without elite finishing credentials at that level. In round one, Overeem went for a knee in the clinch that Rothwell absorbed, then landed a right hand that put Overeem down. Ground strikes prompted the referee's intervention. Overeem commented afterwards that a 'mistake' had cost him the fight. The upset reordered the heavyweight contender picture and put Rothwell in the UFC's top-five discussion.

Legacy & Impact
Jacaré's guillotine of Mousasi settled the controversy from their first encounter and positioned him as the UFC's premier middleweight grappler. He went on to challenge for the UFC middleweight title three times — losing closely contested decisions to Michael Bisping, Robert Whittaker, and Israel Adesanya. Ben Rothwell's Overeem upset gave him a brief spot in the UFC's top-five heavyweight conversation; he won his next two before losing to Junior dos Santos. Derrick Lewis's 41-second loss to Mitrione was an early stumble in what became one of the most entertainment-guaranteed heavyweight careers in UFC history — he holds the all-time UFC record for KO/TKO wins in the heavyweight division.
